There are not a lot of good dining options in Kodiak. We wandered around the downtown area a bit and the places there seemed tired and the menus heavy on fried stuff. I’d marked Nuniaq on my Google Map as the place I thought we should have lunch. Walking in was a refreshing change. Very few tourists but mainly locals filled the place. You could see into the kitchen and it was very neat. The menu has some nice local twists utilising local seafood. I got the salmon melt and my wife got the cod/jalapeno melt. Both were outstanding. The service at the counter was friendly and the place is very clean, especially the restrooms. Definitely the lunch of choice in Kodiak.

Original review for transparency: Atrociously expensive food for a minuscule portion and severe lack of flavor. Yes the ingredients are fresh but if you have to pay 20$ for half a wrap that is 65% lettuce it just doesn’t make sense. I got a Thai chicken wrap that was dry with almost no peanut sauce. The chicken was cooked well but it’s almost entirely lettuce. The baked goods look yummy and priced reasonably. But I would avoid the wraps and salads unless you have money to just throw away.

EDIT: Thank you Melissa for addressing my original review. I believe the $18ish for a full wrap is completely reasonable. When I was rung up I asked the two gals working, ‘is it $20 for only 1/2 a wrap?’ They said yes, that was the price and I said again’ Really?’ to confirm. Thus I confirmed twice with the staff that the price was correct for a 1/2 portion of food. Like I said before, the food is good I was just shocked by the price. And if they had given me the sauce with the wrap, obviously it wouldn’t have been dry.

Everything has been addressed in a very professional and kind manner from Nuniaq.

If you are in Kodiak, you must visit.
🥰Best seafood chowder I have ever had (and that is my favorite food, I’ve tried it worldwide.) LOVED it so much that we bought an order for takeout and had it for dinner!!
The Cod jalapeño popper grilled cheese was also really good. Just the right amount of spice.
Husband loved 💕the cannoli cupcake, while I preferred the chocolate fudge cookie.

Only minimal downgrade was the service was slightly slow. However, I presume it is because they were so busy, between diners and take out.

Definitely a popular place.

This is a very nice restaurant with a good variety of dishes to try and is run by locals. There is always a daily special section to choose from and tasty local crabs. Overall, it was a good experience having lunch here.

I was just passing through Kodiak, and stopped by this fast casual restaurant. Despite it being labeled as “Native American cuisine”, it carries mainly familiar foods such as sandwiches, wraps, tacos and nachos. The fresh, locally-sourced ingredients are what make this food outstanding. I had the Baja Cod Tacos, and my companion had a Grilled Cheese and Halibut sandwich. Most of the food looks incredible, and I’d definitely recommend it.

Really great food selection with an emphasis on local tastes. Excellent service even at the lunch rush. The rockfish tacos were amazing.

Soooo happy we came here. Food quality was fresh and excellent. I had the fish tacos - corn tortillas, slaw, tortilla chips and salsa. the fish of the day was cod.
My brother got their grilled sourdough sandwich with cod, a dill/cream cheese, and jalapeños in it. It was delicious!
My one suggestion is that as tortilla chips came as the side to each main, please include a salsa with each side of chips.
Their baked goods - huge cookies and 7 layer bars and ice cream sandwiches - all appeared handmade and delightful. Will have to get one next time.
As of 2 August they are only doing to go food as it appears their dining room is under renovation.
